Measurement Guides
Which fireplace do you have?
Masonry Fireplace: Built entirely from real brick, stone, and mortar with a traditional brick chimney. The firebox interior is made of solid stone or brick.
Zero Clearance (Factory-Built) Fireplace: A prefabricated metal unit framed directly into the wall, usually featuring a round metal chimney pipe. The firebox interior is made of metal, often lined with thin, removable faux-brick panels.
Not sure which measurement guide you need? Take a quick look at your fireplace:
Look inside the firebox: If the walls are made of thick, heavy brick and mortar, you have a Masonry Fireplace. If it looks like a metal box or has a metal frame around the opening, you have a Zero Clearance (Prefab) Fireplace.
Look at your chimney from the outside: If you see a heavy brick or stone chimney running up your roof, it's Masonry. If you see a metal pipe (or a wood-framed box covered in siding/stucco), it's Zero Clearance.
